While crafting Glenmorangie Artein Dr. Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie's Head of Distilling & Whisky Creation, was intrigued by the influence of stone in the natural ingredients of the whisky, especially considering the material's special significance to the br&. This relationship begins with the Hilton of Cadboll Stone, an ancient monument that is the whisky's inspiration. Nose: Sweetness dominates, maple syrup & thick cream. Sweet fruits, apricots & peaches. A subtle spice, with hints of oak. Palate: The sweetness from the nose shines through, spice is slightly more prominent. Notes of dry wood & cloves. Distinctive sweet fruits, peach & red apples. Finish: Long, the sweetness is overridden by the spice. ...

The Glenmorangie Astar (Scots Gaelic for “journey”), a single malt entirely matured in bespoke oak casks, which were designed to deliver perfection in the final spirit. The Astar’s extraordinary casks are hewn from h&-selected slow-grown oak trees from the Ozark mountains of Missouri. Although the silken depths of its first release delighted connoisseurs, such casks are so rare that it has taken years to orchestrate its renaissance. In 2017, The Astar’s triumphant, limited-edition return brings a newfound richness & complexity to this smooth, creamy & long celebrated single malt. (last one left in stock
- slight damage to cardboard carton!) Nose: Rich aromas of butterscotch & honey are balanced with bright, floral top notes, the freshness of mint, freshly squeezed lemons & a delightful burst of coconut. Palate: mooth & creamy on the palate, as sumptuously sweet crème-brûlée emerges with tropical fruits, apricots & vanilla custard, hazelnuts in soft buttery fudge, then clove, toasted oak & a hint of cooling menthol. Finish: Honey & almond mingle with coconut ice & aniseed for an enduring smoothness at the finish.

Released in early 2017, Glenmorangie's Bacalta is the first expression from the distillery which has been finished in sun-baked Malmsey Madeira casks. Dr. Bill Lumsden had bespoke American oak casks made & heavily toasted, then seasoned with Malmsey wine & left to bake in the heat of Madeira's sun. The casks were emptied & shipped to Scotland to finish the Glenmorangie whisky, which had been matured in ex-bourbon barrels. Nose: Succulent apricots ripened in Madeiras island sun emerge from fragrant, honeyed aromas. A curiously flinty note gives way to beguiling hints of white chocolate. Palate: Complex layers of honeycomb follow an initial burst of mint toffee. Almonds come forth to mingle with dates, caramelised oranges & more apricots. Finish: Creamy fudge emerges in the long, syrupy aftertaste, alongside caramelised citrus & pears. All are played out against an intriguing mentholic backdrop... ...

Finished in Burgundy barrels, this is one earthy Glenmorangie, an interesting dram for sure, & one that bears little resemblance to the standard bottling. Initially matured in American oak casks, Glenmorangie Burgundy Wood Finish has been racked into selected Burgundy ' Barriques' from the Cote D'or for extra ageing in the final period of its maturation. Nose: Toasty. Some bitterness. Woody, red grapes & raisins with sea saltiness & overripe red berries. Palate: Sweetish. Very fruity. Winey. Easily drinkable. Quite tannic & peppery, there is a vanilla sweetness here but the oak wood is dominant. The saltiness comes through in the middle with a bit of the red fruit. Finish: Medium length & earthy. Quite dry but leaves a lasting honey grape sweetness. ...

Glenmorangie Companta - Private Edition Whisky

Glenmorangie Companta (Scots Gaelic for friendship) is a rare limited edition matured in American oak casks, then extra matured in a selection of ex French wine casks. The rich aroma of Glenmorangi Companta reveals a spicy palate redolent of cherries and strewed fruits, with layers of blood orange and sugar plum alongside a hint of milk chocolate - yum! Non Chill Filtered. Nose: Heady, fruity nose with notes of chocolate and spice. Then comes truffles and the forest floor. The typical red berry notes arrive a little later, developing slowly with hints of toasted almond. Palate: There is a massive spice note, then something akin to chewing on pipe tobacco sweet and savoury all at once. Black pepper comes through in a big way. Hints of sherbet, ginger, stewed prunes and then molasses.
Its quite chocolatey too, and tremendously complex. Finish: Sweet, very long finish with hints of clove oil on the tail. A hint of muscovado sugar develops, a touch of chestnut mushroom too. It remains oily and mouth-coating for minutes. Overall: Really Good - one of finest red wine finished whiskies on the market - Recommended!
