Ardbeg Kelpie is named for the legends of the sea around Ardbeg. Its powerful aromas of oily peat, salty seaweed & tarry rope have been produced by virgin oak casks from the Black Sea, intermingled with the hallmark Ardbeg flavour profile. Waves of spicy black pepper give way to a delectable tide of bacon & dark chocolate. Incredibly deep. Nose: Powerful, oily peat, dark chocolate, smoked fish, hints of seaweed, & a curious, sharp herbal note. Spicy black pepper & a splash of water brings forth some classic Ardbeg notes, such as creamy coffee, smoked fudge & pine resin. Even some hints of smoked coconut. Palate: A peppery mouth feel is followed by a crescendo of rich flavours. Treacle toffee, Turkish coffee, smoky bacon & lots of dark, dark chocolate. A curious burst of peachy, estery fruit, hickory wood, clove oil & a suggestion of black olives. Finish: Seemingly lasting forever, with deep, deep, almost subterranean flavours of clove, tar, & rich toffee. *box not included ...

The Lord of the Isles was originally bottled in 2001, & unofficially, it was released as an Approx. 25 year old whisky, comprised of 1976 & 1977 casks. It is said to always contain casks from 1976 & 1977 so the whisky would be older as each bottling run was released. Much like the Ardbeg 17, the actual age of Lord of the Isles increases towards the end of its bottling life. Theoretically, the LOTI in 2007 was almost 30 years old. Nose: Deep, rich & sweet: the sweetness of chocolate, marzipan & cherries surrounds a deep & peaty centre revealing the warmth of leather & a heady oily characteristic. Beneath the oil, cocoa & a rich maltiness are discovered. With water, the flavour spectrum is widened as both smoke & salt emerge from the sweet & peaty complexity giving woodsmoke, tarry rope & leather. Later, the delicacy of mandarin fruit is discovered, followed by hints of heather & lavender scent. Taste: Powerfully peaty & chewing, with a luscious silky & oily mouth-feel balanced by a mouth-watering effect. The taste is initially sweet with vanilla & chocolate giving way rapidly to a crescendo of peat & cocoa. Finish: Long & dry with chocolate malt & crushed peat resting satisfyingly on the palate ...
