Apple (Malus) Ashmeads Kernel (M26 Rootstock) Apple 'Ashmead's Kernel' - Pollination Group 4 - Eating Apple - is a superb variety that holds a RHS Award of Garden Merit that dates back to the 1700s. This is a versatile heritage variety that can be enjoyed when eaten fresh, cooked, juiced or used for homemade cider. The dull, russet-skinned fruits might look less appealing than other modern varieties, with a few lumps and bumps, but rest assured the pale flesh has a delicious pear-drop flavour. It is fair to say this is as delicious as an apple can grow and really stands out in taste tests. Fruits can be harvested in early October and store well until February.
