This guidebook describes the 187km (116 mile) Devon Coast-to-Coast Path, or Two Moors Way. The trek travels south to north, from Wembury on the south coast, up through Dartmoor & mid-Devon, through Exmoor to Lynmouth on the Bristol Channel. The trek can be adjusted to suit each walker, & can take between a week to 10 days depending on itinerary. While thousands of visitors flock to Devon every year, few leave the honeypots & coast, so walkers on the Two Moors Way are treated to beautiful & remote countryside, far from the crowds. The route winds north from the coast, up past Ivybridge into the wilds of Dartmoor, where the path crosses the upper course of the River Dart, & passes through Dunstone Down & Chagford. The way through mid-Devon visits Witheridge & Knowstone before climbing onto Exmoor & into Somerset, before reaching the sea. This guidebook combines clear route descriptions & OS map extracts with plentiful practical details on each stage of the route as well as advice on accommodation, facilities, & how to travel to & from the Way. Also included is a wealth of detail on the history, geology & wildlife along the way, as well as noting points of interest to enhance your trek. ...

One morning in October 2013, nineteen-year-old Ayan Juma & her sixteen-year-old sister Leila left their family home in Oslo. Later that day they sent an email to their parents. ` Peace, God`s mercy & blessings upon you, Mum & Dad.. . Please do not be cross with us...` Leila & Ayan had decided to travel to Syria, `and help out down there as best we can`. They had been planning for months. By the time their desperate father Sadiq tracks them to Turkey, they have already crossed the border. But Sadiq is determined to find them. What follows is the gripping, heartbreaking story of a family ripped apart. While Sadiq risks his own life to bring his daughters back, at home his wife Sara begins to question their life in Norway. How could her children have been radicalised without her knowledge? How can she protect her two younger sons from the same fate? Asne Seierstad
- with the complete support of the Juma family
- followed the story from the beginning, through its many dramatic twists & turns. It`s a tale that crosses from Sadiq & Sara`s original home in Somalia, to their council estate in Oslo, to Turkey & to Syria
- where two teenage sisters must face the shocking consequences of their decision.

Two Steps Backward

Susie Kelly and her husband Terry had long dreamed of owning a home in France, but ironically it wasn`t until they were facing homeless penury in England that they realized their dream. With five dogs, two parrots and their elderly horses, they moved to an old farmhouse in the Poitou-Charentes region with dirt floors, no water and a primitive electricity supply. While Terry was back in England trying to support them all, Susie Kelly contended with a homicidal gas cooker at the bottom of the garden, burst pipes, a guinea fowl that turned somersaults and bit people on the shin and a constant stream of people turning up at her door with needs of their own. Sometimes the enormity of renovating a house with insufficient funds and little help seemed overwhelming. She saw her husband
infrequently. Their English neighbour was imprisoned on drug-smuggling charges. And when Terry developed a condition that brought him close to death, the dream threatened to turn into a nightmare. There were times when Susie and Terry seemed to be taking two steps backward, but the kindness of the local community and the tranquillity of the landscape inspired them to make a new life for themselves and their animals in the place they now called home.
