Spring in Sicily is a magical season of abundant growth & fertility. Fruit trees & vines are in new leaf, wheat fields stretch to the horizon, wild flowers grow in profusion along the roadside &, at sea, tuna & swordfish swarm in anticipation of their annual migration. It is the perfect time to travel to Sicily & uncover its secrets. Although small, Sicily has a big reputation & a colourful history. Its prized position on the Mediterranean trade route has rewarded Sicily with centuries of invasion & the influence of its conquerors is still evident in its architecture, cuisine & daily life. From the glittering Palermo of princes & palazzos to humble seaside bars, from the derelict & forgotten island of Salina to vineyards thriving on the rich slopes OF Mount Etna, Manuela Darling-Gansser`s Sicilian journey reveals the real Sicily behind the myths & stereotypes. Like its landscape, Sicily`s food is one of contrasts -- rich Arab spices, exquisite mild ricotta, hearty pasta, decadent desserts, & plenty of fresh fish, oranges, lemons & pistachios. & all Sicilians would agree, the best food is cooked at home. Drawn from the best of Sicilian cuisine, Manuela`s recipes are always tempting & make it easy to introduce the flavours of Sicily into your home. The fourth of Manuela`s seasonal journeys, Spring in Sicily is a lavishly illustrated & highly evocative journey to the heart of this unique isl&. ...

` Enough to keep any thriller fan up for hours...terrific & memorable` Peter Robinson The spring tides are the highest of the year in Nordkoster; the beach will be covered in particularly deep water tonight. Three men on the beach are digging a hole, covertly watched by a young boy. His intrigue turns to horror as he makes out a fourth figure
- the woman for whom the hole is intended. Buried up to her neck in the s&, the high tide is rapidly approaching. Still screaming in terror, the victim takes her last breath as water fills her nose & mouth
- in her stomach, she feels her baby kick. & her waters break. Twenty-four years later, the abhorrent crime remains unsolved; gruesome violence however is still prevalent after all those years. A gang has been beating up & killing homeless people in parks
- worse still, they are filming their attacks & broadcasting them on the internet. The police have their work cut out trying to keep abreast of the crime wave. Olivia Ronning hopes to follow in her father`s footsteps & join their ranks in the next few months after she completes her training; she has only one last hurdle to overcome over the summer break, a challenge from her professor to pick a cold case & solve it. Should be simple, she thinks. Little does she know the world she is getting involved in, the danger she faces & the ugly truths she risks uncovering. A masterpiece by the king & queen of Scandinavian crime, Cilla & Rolf Borjlind. Cinematic & powerful
- but above all, gripping.

The idea for Springlines came from a walk on the South Downs in the drought of Spring 2012. The poet Clare Best & the artist Mary Anne Aytoun-Ellis went in search of pools of water that are concealed, overlooked or hidden. They found places & whole landscapes rich in history, wildlife, culture & myth. This book presents the work they made about some of those watery places, from dew ponds to ancient wells, clay-pits to furnace ponds, chalk springs to the man-made pools of Glyndebourne. Mary Anne`s paintings sit with Clare`s poetry, alongside short pieces by other writers, & water subjects drawn & painted by Cotman, Cristall, Edridge, Turner & others, to create a book that approaches some of the hidden corners of English landscape & celebrates the vitality of water. With contributions from Alison Brackenbury, Laura Coleman, Alexandra Harris, Alexandra Loske, Richard Mabey, Robert Macfarlane, Steve Marshall, Clare Whistler, Tim Wilcox. ...
