Map showing the boundaries between the postcode areas
- the first two letters of the postcode (e.g. RG, NR). Size of largest text, in red capitals, is 5mm. The map is fairly plain so information may be added by the user. A large number of place names are shown, with towns roughly classified by population size. Engl&, Wales, Scotland & Northern Ireland are included. County & unitary authority boundaries are also shown, & there is an enlargement of Greater London. Postcode areas are widely used in marketing or transport as they are based on modern distribution centres & have a versatile system of subdivisions which can be used as necessary. Many of the county boundaries are based on the fiefdoms of medieval or Anglo-Saxon lords, which does not always make them the most efficient system to use!
