Small size version of a cloth-backed reproduction by Old Folding Maps of a “ Historical map of Palestine (or the) Holy L&, drawn by J.T. Assheton around 1818, engraved by Sidney Hall & published in London by Samuel Leigh corrected to 1825”. The map has Damascus at the top & stretches to the southern tip of the Dead Sea. Colouring shows the borders of the regions attributed to the Twelve Tribes of the Israelites. Small drawings illustrate various biblical locations & events: Jerusalem, Hebron, Jericho, Megiddo, Mount Pisgah, etc. This reproduction was taken from what used to be called a “cloth-dissected” map, made when the map itself was cut into sections & each section then individually pasted onto an overall cloth backing for the whole map. In this version the whole map is backed onto cloth in one piece but the gaps between the sections have been reproduced in the printing to preserve the style & the feeling of the original. Each individual cloth-backed map is sold folded in a colourful case covered with a unique design marbled paper – no two cases are identical.PLEASE NOTE: given the wealth of detail, the print size of some names is very small in this version, but this title is also available in a larger medium size version where all the names are much clearer & easier to read. One of the maps in the topographic survey of Peru from the country’s national survey organization, Instituto Geográfico Nacional. Contours are at 25m intervals & colouring/symbols indicate different types of terrain & vegetation. Some of the maps may contain small blank spaces representing as yet unmapped areas. Each sheet covers 30’ latitude by 30’ longitude. The maps have a 1km UTM grid & margin ticks for latitude & longitude at intervals of 1’. Publication dates vary; most maps were published in 1960s to 1990s, with some sheets revised more recently.
