In addition to all the usual information shown on topographic maps at this scale, detailed presentation of the road & rail networks, rural tracks & paths, etc, the maps also show campsites. Published in 1945, prior to the Allied occupation of the area, the maps are especially good at showing industry, collieries & transport. They are not bombing maps
- indeed, they make clear that allowance is not made for bomb damage
- but show the areas with all their industrial sites & railways largely as they were before the bombing raids of 1943-44. The maps have additional information added by British intelligence. This is normally accurate but allowance must be made for the `fog of war` & occasional spelling mistakes, etc. Each title has on the reverse a specially written introduction to the area in English, with a shorter text in German. Hatton in 1935 in a fascinating series of reproductions of old Ordnance Survey plans in the Alan Godfrey Editions, ideal for anyone interested in the history of their neighbourhood or family. The map covers an area just east of Heathrow, from Hatton village northward to Berkeley Avenue at Cranford. Features include Hatton Farm, St Anthony`s Home, Dog & Partridge inn, Hatton Road Farm, River Crane, isolation hospital, & Byron Avenue area.
