This very early French map shows the northern coast of what is now South America from Margarita Island (Venezuela) eastwards to the mouth of the Amazon River. Of particular interest are the large lakes marked on the map which do not actually exist! Despite this imaginative approach to map drawing this is a beautiful map with pictorial representations of highland areas & many rivers named. Latitude & longitude scales are marked in the borders. Orginally entitled Partie de Terre Ferme ou sont Guiane et Caribane. Reproduced on heavyweight, parchment effect paper, with a generous border area. Paper
