Great Desert Tracks: Eastern Sheet at 1:1, 250, 000 from Hema printed on light, waterproof & tear-resistant synthetic paper & covering the southern-eastern part of Northern Territory, north-eastern part of South Australia, & the Outback regions of Queensland & New South Wales, including several popular Outback routes: Oodnadatta Track, Bridsville Track, Plenty Highway, Hay River Track, etc. Hema’s mapping shows roads & 4WD tracks, as well as very rough tracks which often become overgrown & may be difficult to follow. This information is divided into two groups: roads & tracks which were plotted during the fieldwork carried out by Hema, plus other tracks shown on the GA’s 1:250, 000 topographic survey maps & on other sources but not specifically verified by the publishers. The maps also show railways with stations & man-made features important for orienteering: disused railways, vermin proof fences, towers, gates, cattle grids, wells & waterholes, etc. Altitude colouring with relief shading & graphics indicates the terrain; national/state parks & reserves, aboriginal lands & restricted entry areas all indicated by colours. Permanent & mainly dry or salt lakes, sand ridges & cliffs are marked. The maps have a grid at intervals of 30’ with additional 5’ ticks along the grid lines. Where helpful, GPS coordinates are given for important junctions, isolated accommodation facilities, etc. A wide range of symbols indicate tourist information: various types of accommodation, stores, drinking water, medical facilities, petrol stations indicating types of fuel sold there, mechanical & tyre repairs facilities, etc. Each title
