Grasses of the Kruger National Park is designed to provide a handy, easy-to-use- guidebooks for tour guides, tourists & students. The guide is arranged in three sections
- Introduction, Identification of the Grasses & Pasture Management. The first section explains the terms used in the guide, the seond chapter is the grass identification section & a last chapter provides a short summary of the most important pasture management strategies, pasture pests & a short summary of grazing animals. Two photographs are included of every grass covered in the guide, one of the inflorescence & one of the complete grass with a ruler for size. in addition, there is a line drawing of each grass, to show details that are difficult to show in the photograph. The accompanying text provides an overview of the grass, with information on growth form, ecological status, successional status, nutritive status, palatability, habitat, preferred soil type & its value as an indicator species. Distribution maps for the southern African sub-region accompanies each grass; most grasses discussed in the book occur throughout southern Africa. Tne guide is colou-coded for quick reference & the colour codes are indicated in the contents for cross-referencing purpose.
