Motorways are clearly depicted on this map, but the other main roads are not differentiated much from each other, & town names & road numbers jostle together, making the map rather cluttered. International borders are also difficult to pick out. However national parks are shown, as are railways, places of interest & campsites.

One of the titles in a series of indexed regional maps with enlargements showing access to main cities. Bold relief shading combined with colouring for forested areas & a large number of place names make the base map rather dark & some of the small print occasionally difficult to read. Major roads do stand out well, but in more densely populated areas road information does become difficult to follow given the amount of detail, such as numbers & names of motorway junctions. Railways &, where appropriate, ferry routes are shown. National parked are marked & tourist information

Germany NGS Executive Wall Map ENCAPSULATED

Germany at 1:1, 375, 000 on a wall map, size: 61 x 77cm (24” x 30” approx) – encapsulated version, from the National Geographic Society in highly successful executive style with muted coluring designed to evoke antique maps. The map presents the division of Germany into individual states, showing their names in their English versions, e.g. Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and not Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, or Rhineland-Palatinate and not Rheinland-Pfalz. Where appropriate, names of cities are shown in German first with the English equivalent in brackets: Köln (Cologne). Names of geographical features are given only in their German versions, e.g. Schwarzwald and not Black Forest, Donau and not Danube, etc.The map shows the network of main roads and railways, international airports
and ferry routes on the Baltic and the North Sea. Topography is indicated by light relief shading, with spot heights and graphics for swamp areas. Latitude and longitude lines are drawn at 1° intervals.*This map is also available on paper without the encapsulation.*LAMINATED and ENCAPSULATED WALL MAPS:*- *laminated* wall maps have a thin layer of plastic usually applied to the printed side only. They can be written on with suitable marker pens without any damage to the map but, unless laminated on both sides, they are not damp-proof.- *encapsulated* wall maps are sealed between two sheets of plastic. They are more rigid and heavier than laminated maps of the same size. They are damp-proof and do not crinkle in humid conditions. Encapsulation gives the map a shiny surface, similar to
being displayed behind glass.- *please note:* many publishers and retailers often use these two terms interchangeably. Our map titles and descriptions follow the definitions provided above.
