A long standing feature on the traveller’s shelf, the very term ‘ Baedeker’ has been synonymous with ‘travel guide’. Baedeker divides the main section of their guides into four categories
- background, practicalities, tours & A-Z of sites. Each guide is introduced by a double spread of sightseeing highlights & special Baedeker best tips. The background section provides facts, history & cultural information on the destination, whilst summary introductions to things such as language, accommodation, transport, food & drink are found in the practicalities chapter. A selection of tours is given to take in a variety of places of interest & an approximate duration is usefully indicated for each itinerary. The major section of each book deals with a substantial & detailed A-Z of sites. The A-Z listing comes with 3-d pull outs of selected destinations & some printed building plans of historic sites & museums to help orientate the visitor. The guides have a large amount of colour illustrations, come with a free map showing key transport information & places of interest & are produced in a protective plastic jacket.
