The Boeing 747 raises more emotions than maybe any other airliner & is therefore affectionately known as Jumbo Its successor the 747-8 which offersinnovation advanced technology & efficiency made its first flight on 20 March 2011 As a completely new aircraft development the Boeing 747-8 builds on the positive qualities of the proven Boeing 747 series The 747-8 is 56 meters longer than the previous Boeing 747-400 & has a maximum take-off weight of 442tons The wings have significantly enhanced aerodynamics & newly designed wingtips in addition the aircraft offers noticeable improvements in efficiency the Gent GEnx-2B engines consume less fuel (about 20) & achieve a significantfuel efficiency & CO2 emission per passenger improvement of 15 Noise emissions are also reduced by 30 The new Lufthansa Jumbo offers seating for a total of 362 passengers & entered regular service in June 2012 Lufthansa will take delivery of 20 Boeing 747-8 by 2015
