Vic Sarin directs this love story, played out against a historical backdrop of political & religious upheaval as partitioning divides the nation of India in the late 1940s. At the end of the Second World War, soldier Gian Singh (Jimi Mistry) resigns his commission with the British Indian Army & returns to his childhood village, near what is to become the border between India & Pakistan. Haunted by the memories of war, Gian seeks a quiet life of farming, solitude & prayer. His peace is shattered, however, when India is granted independence. When the new border is drawn between Hindu-dominated India & Muslim-dominated Pakistan, the region is torn apart by massacres fueled by ancient animosities. During one such massacre, Gian finds 17-year-old Naseem (Kristin Kreuk), a Muslim girl, & takes her under his protection. The two gradually find themselves drawn to each other
