Award-winning travel writer Phoebe Smith returns with more great outdoor experiences that are designed to be accessible for everyone, from novices & newbie hillwalkers to hardcore outdoor enthusiasts. This book has 60 walking routes up some of the best hills in Britain. Each walk

Includes::
where to walk, & also curious facts & places, such as one of the best small hills with a café at the top, the hill where Captain Cook became inspired to travel, the only Wainwright the man himself couldn't summit, & the Welsh peaks where the rocks that form Stonehenge come from. There's also great tips from Phoebe on safety, walking kit, weather, walking responsibly, maps, & taking children, friends & reluctant walkers. The routes vary from 1km (under a mile) to 13km (8 miles) with the hills from just 120m up to 609m high, & cover 20 hills each in Engl&, Wales & Scotland " When it comes to mountains society seems to be obsessed with height" says Phoebe Smith. " But those who shun peaks based on measurement are truly missing out. Following on from the success of Wilderness Weekends, people are always asking me where they can take a friend, partner or young child that will help convince them that the outdoors
- & hills
- are worth the effort. Answering that need is this book, it's all about minimum effort for maximum results." Phoebe Smith has been exploring & writing about Britain for over 10 years, & is the author of 7 books on the British wilderness & the joys of camping. She is also one of the Ordnance Survey Get Outside Champions. In 2014 she became the first woman to camp at all the extreme points of mainland Britain on consecutive nights
- these included the highest, lowest, northernmost, southernmost, easternmost & westernmost points of the country. In 2015 & 2016 she was shortlisted for the National Adventure Awards in the Inspiring Others category. "A magnificent, magical & motivating guide" Clare Balding, BBC Radio 4's Ramblings " Phoebe Smith is a splendid writer & an inspiring traveller" Bill Bryson, author of ' Notes from a Small Island'

Accurate & attractive. With the islands shown in correct relationship to the mainl&, plus list of administrative regions. This map is a rarity as it shows the islands in their correct relationships to the mainl&, yes, the Channel Islands are down there (practically in France) & Shetland really is half way to Norway. Wherever we live in Britain we are a nation of map lovers. If no longer because we are all off sailing the seven seas, then because we have the world's most wonderfully ridiculous place names, Unthank & Upsettlington being a couple of our favourites. Or perhaps it's because we're fiercely regional, proud of our accents & local delicacies, even if they're whelks, eels or pork scratchings. The maps are printed to the highest quality FSC approved silk-coated paper using a lithographic printing process. This works like a mechanised version of traditional screen-printing. A plate is made for each colour & then laid down individually, offering a stunning-quality print, with great definition & colour impact. A sealer is applied to protect the inks & gloss UV varnish used to add contrast & highlight boundaries. ...
