DESCRIPTION
Lutein and zeaxanthin are the most important constituents of the macula lutea in the eye. This yellow spot lies in the centre of the retina and is used for seeing the central section of one's field of vision, i.e. what one is looking at. As the focal point of the eye's lens, the macula lutea is the area able to perceive the finest details. For that reason it contains a high concentration of
light-sensitive sensory cells (cone cells), which provide sharpness of vision and perception of colour. And so, as primary constituents of the macula lutea, lutein and zeaxanthin are crucial for sharp vision. Lutein and zeaxanthin cannot be produced by the human body, and so the body is dependent on the presence of these substances in the diet or nutritional supplements. As a person ages, external supply of these carotenoids will support the function of the eye. Most important characteristics of Lutein 2.5 mg plus: Plus product: also contains zeaxanthin in addition to lutein, both being primary constituents of the macula; Natural lutein and zeaxanthin from the petals of the African marigold (Tagetes erecta); Each tablet contains a relatively small quantity of
