Saint John baptises Jesus Christ in the river Jordan. This is perhaps the end section from a predella panel, supporting pilaster, or flat-fronted pillar. The rest of the altarpiece has not definitely been identified, although it has been suggested that together with scenes from the lives of Saints James & John the Baptist & the Crucifixion (Paris, Louvre) this could have been part of an altarpiece for the Nobili family chapel of S. Jacopo & S. Giovanni Decollato in S. Maria degli Angeli, Florence.
