Scania R Flatbed with Straw Load (G Owen & Son) in Blue (1:50 scale)
- Brothers Henry & George Owen bought the company in 1958 from an existing coal merchant who supplied coal to domestic customers in & around the Mid-Wales area. Due to illness, Henry retired in 1968 & George continued to manage until 1970 when his two sons Murray & Robert joined him & a year later the company became G. Owen & Sons.
Following George’s retirement in 1973 Murray & Robert have developed the company to its present form where their sons Daniel & Rhys are now also heavily involved in the business. In 1976, Murray & Robert purchased pre-packing facilities for the retail market of the Coal industry & developed further when moving into general haulage in 1988.
Such is the variety in loads, the vehicles can be seen on a farm in the Welsh Mountains one day, & on Oxford Street attending to major customer, Laura Ashley, the next. CV55 CWJ is the flagship of the fleet & won best Scania two years running at the all Wales truck show in 2007/08.
