- Named after his eldest son, Peter Coulthard founded ‘ Hayton Coulthard’ in 1916. Ironically Hayton was not interested in haulage & went into farming. Peter’s first vehicle was a motorbike & sidecar delivering newspapers around Galloway before buying his first lorry to collect milk cans for a local dairy. During the Second World War, a percentage of lorries were commandeered from haulage firms for the war effort & to safeguard the future of the company, second son Jimmy, who had now taken control of the business, set up Dunmhor Transport.
Jimmy died in 1959 & his son Duncan left school aged 14 to help his mother run the business, taking over complete control in 1967 & went on to oversee the company thrive in the 70s & 80s. Duncan Snr retired in 2000 with Duncan Jnr, the 4th generation Coulthard to take the helm, becoming Managing Director. Hayton Coulthard Freight Forwarding Ltd operate a modern fleet pulling 120 trailers including the temperature controlled trailer modelled here.
