Austin Allegro Special LE in Tara Green (1:43 scale)
- Production of the Allegro’s 1300cc engine was reduced due to preparations for the forthcoming Metro during 1978 so BL created the Special LE to maintain production levels. Priced at only £2, 965.95 to tempt buyers away from the 1300, it offered a 5-speed gearbox, Sundym tinted-glass, passenger-door-mirror, lockable fuel-cap, fog-lamps, tachometer & a leather steering wheel. Launched on Wednesday the 5th April 1978 & publicised as ‘ The Allegro of a Lifetime’ just two metallic colours were offered; Tara Green & Astral Blue. Only 6, 800 Special LEs were produced & very few survive. However, the car modelled has been lovingly cared for since 1995 by Surrey enthusiasts Mr & Mrs Don & Norma Bridle.
