Austin A40 Farina Saloon in Tartan Red (1:43 scale)
- BMC’s relationship with Italian stylist Pininfarina appeared, at first glance, to produce a whole range of new cars during 1958 & 1959. In reality this clutch of new models, including the Cambridge & Westminster derived badge engineered range as well as the A40 modelled here, were clever re-skins of existing cars. The A40, launched in 1958, was the first of these smart, often two-tone, up to date new look models. It enhanced on its mechanical godfather, the A35, by offering more space front & rear plus an estate car style folding rear seat, although the opening tailgate ‘ Countryman’ version wasn’t released until 1959.
