Local Information Somerton is delightful village steeped in history dating back hundreds of years with mentions in the Domesday Book & also links to William The Conqueror after the Battle of Hastings. The church in particular (a Grade One listed building) is relatively famous in local circles for its historical significance. Somerton is no more than 15 mins outside Woodstock, the very popular Oxfordshire market town & just 15 miles from the centre of Oxford. The village also enjoys superb travel links with Bicester train station (to London Marylebone) 10 mins drive away or Junction 10 of the M40 no more than 3 miles away. The village sits on the northern side of the Oxfordshire Cotswolds with the River Cherwell & Oxford Canal both meandering through the edge of the village & just moments from this holiday cottage. The meadows at the river are absolutely perfect for evening 'sun-downers'. There are many walks to choose from, right from your door. The very famous & very popular Bicester Shopping Outlet Centre (or Bicester Village as it is called) is 10 mins away if shopping is your thing. There are a variety of good pubs in the locality, but none in the village. Of particular note is The Falkland Arms in Great Tew, one of the prettiest spots imaginable. ...
