Fun & friendly flying lessons near Sheffield at Netherthorpe Airfield! We are offering 30 & 60-minute trial flights in two & four seater aircraft out of this lovely little airfield on the South Yorkshire/ North Nottinghamshire borders. In a quiet little corner not that far from Worksop you'll find Netherthorpe Airfield. Quite possibly one of the best kept & most organised small airfields we have come across this perfectly formed aerodrome attracts flying fans from Sheffield Rotherham Nottinghamshire & North East Derbyshire for lessons. Flying has been happening here since 1933 when a group of pilots got together to fly their Tiger Moths out of the fields. In 1940 the RAF arrived & it has been home to the Sheffield Aero Club since 1961. There are four large hangers on site & a fully licensed clubhouse bar & restaurant too. All pilots hosting lessons out of Netherthorpe are full CAA accredited & the airfield is CAA licensed. The team is really friendly & welcoming with the aim of giving you a flying lesson to remember. Indeed it has been said that you never forget your inaugural lesson in a plane just as you never forget your first solo flight. Flying solo over the countryside above Netherthorpe Airfield & beyond might be a fair way off but right from lesson number one you'll get a chance to actually fly the aircraft yourself. A ground briefing before your flight will explain how your lesson will pan out & the basic controls of the aircraft. Then it's time to head out to the plane for your lesson. The two seater aircraft used are Cessna 152s which are nifty little single piston engined planes. If you opt for a four seater flight you can invite someone along as an observer to fly in the rear seat of the larger Cessna 172. It's subject to pilot approval but they can watch you & be suitably impressed whilst you're at the controls! With its control tower operations block restaurant garden fire tender & full maintenance service we think Netherthorpe Airfield alongside the pleasant farmland surroundings is a superb place to discover flying with easy access to lessons from Sheffield Nottingham & Derby areas.
