- the De Havilland Chipmunk. The Chippy as it is lovingly known certainly has staying power. It was developed by the Canadian arm of the aviation company in the post-war years as a replacement to the equally legendary Tiger Moth. Once it went into full production the likes of the Royal Canadian & Royal Air Forces both put in large orders for the Chipmunk. The Compton Abbas Chipmunk is a DHC-1 Chipmunk T-10 which means it was built in the UK. Coming off the production line in early 1952 she went into military service in April of the same year. As the standard primary trainer for the RAF Chipmunks were everywhere giving young trainee pilots their first taste of flying
- & if you hear ex RAF pilots talk it's a taste that was never forgotten. Indeed the Chipmunk is just so elegant in flight & was a lively aircraft to learn to fly in. This Chipmunk donned the serial number W585 & was resident at RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland for a good chunk of her RAF career. & she was still flying Air Cadets throughout the 1970s. We've even found a photo of her flying on Air Experience Flights for Air Cadets out of Edinburgh Airport in 1975
- & surprise surprise she still sports those authentic RAF colours today. After all those hours showing young pilots the skies on military trainer flights from the 1950s right through to the latest 80s W585 was then shipped to Cranwell to a rather less salubrious role as a gate guard. Luckily she was auctioned & in 2000 was fully restored with love & care by the Duxford team taking a civil registration in the process. She now flies as G-BZGA proudly operating vintage flights out of Compton Abbas airfield. We are offering 30 45 & 60-minute experience flights in this very fine tandem trainer. What's more the whole thing is filmed from inside the cockpit. This is available to purchase on the day so you can watch you flying in 1950s style over & over again!

It's like you're driving Dom's signature car on this Dodge Charger driving experience! The street racing leader's 1970 Dodge Charger R/T was a car very much close to his heart. These brilliant experiences will see you driving a 1970 Charger that's been done up to look just like Dominic Toretto's pride & joy. We learnt in the first Fast & The Furious film that Dom & his Dad built this impressive customised Charger complete with supercharger attached to the bonnet. Claiming a mighty 900bhp this beast from 1970 would do a quarter-mile straight line in just nine seconds. & that record was set by Dom's Dad. Since his Father's death Dom keeps their precious Charger in the garage too scared to drive it. Would you let a teenager behind the wheel of your prized Bentley for their first drive? No probably not. But this driver training company does & at several venues nationwide too! Clearly they have every confidence in their instructors who will be leading these junior Bentley drive lessons… A Bentley is the epitome of luxury motoring. It's all about road presence comfort & power & the Bentley Flying Spur that the kids will be driving has all of this. In bucketloads. Under the bonnet of this full-size four-door deluxe saloon is a powerful 6.0l twin turbo engine capable of 0-60 in under five seconds (quite something given the size & weight of this car!) & giving 560bhp. Youngsters will definitely be impressed when they open the huge door & slide into that pristine cream leather seat. Then there's the chrome trimmings shining away & the classic walnut dashboard & inserts. This car just lives & breathes class. It's true they're not the most practical of cars (or the cheapest to run) which might explain why when we do see them on the roads they are probably taking blushing brides to their wedding or cruising with the college kids going to their end of year prom. But of course on this experience teens won't be passengers lounging around in the (very) spacious rear seats. Nope it's the parents in the back (enjoying the reclining massage seats!) & the kids who up front in the driver seat taking the dual-controlled Flying Spur for a spin with an ADI (Advanced Driving Instructor) at their side. As for where the youngsters will be taking 'their' Bentley it's all rather realistic. They will be negotiating a proper public-road style set up with junctions roundabouts & all the other things you have to deal with when driving. Except it's all at a private centre so it's all legal & safe! The instructors on these Bentley first drive sessions tell us that allowing youngsters to drive such a large car is a very worthwhile experience as it teaches them how bigger heavier cars handle in a safe & protected environment. We think teens today are very lucky to have the chance to drive a car like the Flying Spur! ...
