To see more designs by Eero Saarinen, click here History of the round Tulip Table Eero Saarinen designed the round Tulip Table in 1956 & won an award for it in 1969. He was of the opinion that multiple legs were a problem in furniture designs, & that they did not allow for the full potential of a design to be realised. He therefore created the Tulip series, which was a series of chairs & tables that were supported by only one leg, greatly resembling the natural shapes that are created by drops of water.
