Prized for its undemanding nature, reliable crop of tasty fruit & amazing versatility, ‘ Ontario’ is a sturdy cultivar & exceptionally hardy. Easy to grow & self-fertile, ' Ontario' is covered in a profusion of white blossom in spring, followed by sweet medium sized oval plums that are delicious?eaten straight from the tree, with yellow skin tinged with green & succulent golden flesh. For cooking, the sweet flesh separates easily from the stone, making this an excellent choice for jams, jellies & other fruit preserves, or poached with custard!supplied as an established plant, 90-110 cm (3-3½ ft) tall in a 5 L pot growing to a height & spread of 3 m (10 ft). Care Water regularly, & apply a mulch of well-rotted compost or manure over winter. Stone fruit should not be pruned during winter, to minimise the risk of infection – early summer is the ideal time. Established trees don't require radical pruning; just take off any diseased, dying or damaged branches. Look at the overall shape & aim for an open structure of branches, removing any that cross over so they don't damage each other. Hang wasp traps in trees & harvest crops as soon as they ripen. Avoid leaving windfalls or overripe fruit on the ground. Thin overcrowded fruits in mid-June to allow the plums to grow & to stop branches breaking under their weight. Contents 1 x Tree ...

This could possibly be the tastiest of all the plums, & a tough hardy tree.A cross between a gage & a plum, easy to grow & self-fertile, ' Opal' is an incredibly heavy cropper, producing an abundance of small sweet plums that taste absolutley delicious. The fruits are delightfully rustic looking with their skins in shades of violet, red & yellow. Offering excellent disease resistance & vigorous growth, if you only plant one plum tree, this is the one! Great for making jam & other preserves, but actually considered too juicy for a traditional plum pie, so try it in a crumble instead! Slightly earlier to crop than most other plums, & a week or so earlier than ' Victoria', the fruits mature on the tree over a two week period, so you can enjoy them for longer. Supplied as an established plant 90-110cm tall in a 5L pot for immediate planting out. Reaching a height & spread after 10 years 3m. Care Water regularly, & apply a mulch of well-rotted compost or manure over winter. Stone fruit should not be pruned during winter, to minimise the risk of infection – early summer is the ideal time. Established trees don't require radical pruning; just take off any diseased, dying or damaged branches (the three Ds). Look at the overall shape & aim for an open structure of branches, removing any that cross over so they don't damage each other. Hang wasp traps in trees & harvest crops as soon as they ripen. Avoid leaving windfalls or overripe fruit on the ground. ' Opal' is a heavy cropper, so thinning the fruits in mid June will stop branches breaking under their weight.
