Sow seed on the surface of the compost & cover with a very fine sprinkling of dry vermiculite or finely sieved compost. Keep the soil damp but not wet & do not exclude light. Place in a propagator or seal the seed tray inside a polythene bag until after germination which usually takes 10-15 days.

When seedlings are large enough to handle transplant & grow them on in cooler conditions until large enough to plant outdoors.

Sow outdoors. Before sowing prepare the ground well by raking until the soil is fine & crumbly & remove any large stones. Make shallow channels in the soil 30cm apart. Sow thinly 1.5mm deep & then rake lightly to ensure the seed is just covered. Keep the soil damp until germination takes place. When the seedlings are large enough to handle carefully thin out to about 15cm apart. Transplant to final flowering site during autumn for flowering the following year planting 30cm apart.
