POR15 Top Coat Red is a direct to metal coating designed to work incredibly well in all applications where there is a need to preserve substrates susceptible to corrosion. To prevent the corrosion process, we thoroughly recommend applying the POR-15 Top Coat over POR-15 Rust Preventive Under exposure to sunlight & weather POR-15 Top Coat Red has exceptional long term gloss & colour retention. POR 15 Top Coat can be applied directly to metal substrates, with no need for a primer or undercoat, & is formulated to form a robust barrier that sheds moisture to provide long lasting protection. POR-15 Top Coat has excellent adhesion & when used over POR15 Rust Preventive Paint the products create a system works to provide a permanent barrier to corrosion. Non porous & will not crack, chip, or peel Amazing scratch & abrasion resistance Not sensitive to UV light Can be applied over POR-15 or other paints. See the How Do I Stop Rust Permanently with POR-15 Solutions? article in the Technical Articles section The quart (946ml)of POR15 top coat will coat Approx. 100 sq. ft. with a single coat. The pint (473ml) will coat Approx. 50 sq. ft. with a single coat. The same coverage rates as standard POR15, however we do suggest thinning the product with our POR15 Solvent (part 40404) when applying by brush or spraying as it is a much thicker product. Typically our suggested thinning rate varies between 10-20%. DIRECTION Stir contents well, then dispense a portion into a separate container & seal can at once, keeping lid & grooves clean to avoid permanently sealing can shut. Do not paint directly out of can. Like all POR-15 coatings, this should always be stirred, never shaken. Best Dispensing Method: Use coffee scoop or pouring spout. Do not put left-over paint back into can. Thin only with POR-15 Solvent, if necessary. Apply in thin, covering coats. SURFACE PREPARATION Surface to be coated should be dry & free of grease, oil, & other contaminants. Use POR15 Cleaner Degreaser (Marine Clean), diluted 1 part Cleaner Degreaser to 8 parts water to remove light contamination. Then rinse with water & allow to dry. APPLYING OVER OTHER PRIMERS Repeat instructions above, then sand surface lightly with 240 grit sandpaper & wipe clean with dry tack cloth & paint. TO PAINT OVER A CURED POR-15 SURFACE Clean with Cleaner Degreaser as above, then sand with 300 grit sandpaper & apply one light to medium coat of POR-15 Self-Etching Primer. Allow to cure for 30 Minutes at 68ºF (20ºC), or longer in cooler temperatures. Apply POR15 Top Coat as final finish. Depending on temperatures & humidity recoat at 3-12 hour intervals. Spray or Brush Application: POR-15 Topcoat will need thinning using POR15 Solvent for all spray & brush applications between 10-20%. Use 25-35 lbs. (172-240 Kpa) pressure for normal semi-gloss. Cleanup: Use POR-15 Solvent or lacquer thinner for cleanup, which must be done before the top coat dries; once dry it cannot be removed by solvent. POR15 Top Coat can take 3-4 days to reach maximum hardness or longer in temperatures below 55ºF 15ºC.
