CB I Hate Perfume M3 November is another of Christopher Brosius scents that is inspired by literature. It is a fragrance that draws its spirit from a melancholy story from Tove Jansson, one with emotional themes that Brosius could not fully comprehend as a child. The story details a group who come together unexpectedly to a house in a valley by the sea. The group have fond memories of the house at summertime, a place where those summer months are whiled away in a haze of kindness & love. The house in November is an entirely different place: an abandoned shell that is dark & musty, just like the chilly & rainy valley. The darkness & the decay of that November tale stayed with him through to adulthood, & shaped his experience of that month for many years to come. Many years later, Brosius revisited the book & found it to be a fascinating character study, & quite a subject to tackle in a childrens book. It is a story of affect over effect, & Brosius has since learned to embrace November & find comfort in the beauty of decay. November is a time of great change; of anticipation for the coming snow, & the warmth of family & friends. The longing for green grass & the sight of fireflies twinkling in the woods is a distant dream, but the allure of pumpkin pie, bonfires & golden apples are a welcome alternative. The scent Pumpkin pie, fallen apples, bonfire, wood smoke, dried grass, fallen leaves, wet branches, damp moss, chanterelle mushrooms & a hint of pine forest.
