The Way Back prefers an adventure to a rustic hut over the crowds of busy resorts.  A superlight wood core with a Carbon Web makes this adventure ski one of the lightest mid-fat skis on the market.  It excels at long approaches & pays increasingly great dividends the farther one ventures into the mountains.  The All-Terrain Shovel rocker combined with the shallow, progressive sidecut makes it ultra-predicable in high-alpine conditions, with the added benefit of rocker that also makes trail-breaking easier. With the ability to mount, touring, fixed or telemark bindings on them & their Baseline technology, Tip & Tail skin attachments & snowphopic top sheets these skis are a truly versatile backcountry tool.
Features: Core:  Aspen is a solid & dense wood that is known for its inherent strength & durability.  Paulownia is an eco-friendly, fast growing renewable wood that is incredibly strong & lightweight.  Bamboo is a softer wood & is recognised for being forgiving & lightweight. Carbon Torsion Box:  This is one of K2’s most popular methods of structuring a ski & involves encasing the wood core with, in this case, Carbon strands.  This means that you get all the benefits of the wood core, whilst also sharing the common traits of ease, forgiveness, responsiveness, & energy that can be found in all Torsion Box skis. Cap Construction:  Durable & lightweight ‘cap’ skis are built by a sophisticated moulding process that envelopes the core & internal materials with the top layer of the ski.  Used throughout the K2 ski line, cap constructions can be assembled with a variety of different cores.  These variations, such as glass and/or metal material are the determining factors of the skis performance. Powder Tip:  The widest point of this tip is the forward contact point as opposed to 7cm in front of it like most shaped skis. This design makes the ski more stable & predictable because it won’t hook or grab erratically in windblown snow & other variable conditions that you’re likely to encounter in the backcountry. Snowphobic topsheet:  These topsheets have a snow repellent surface.  If snow builds up on the ski it can really add to the weight when touring, & so, this hydrophobic design will reduce this from happening.  Applying wax to the topsheet will help increases its snow-shedding performance. Progressive Sidecut:  Progressive sidecut is a combination of two different radii, or sidecuts, that enhance the versatility of wider-waist skis.  Standard sidecut theory is based on using a single radius.  This works well on narrower skis, but becomes overpowering on wider skis, especially in variable conditions, The use of progressive sidecut on wider-waist skis guarantees enhanced turn initiation & hard-snow performance. Carbon web: Enveloping the Mod structure with a carbon weave where the strands of carbon are laid at precise angles for an additional level of torsional rigidity on the secondary core.  This keeps the ski light but gives you the additional torsional strength where you need it most. Tip/ Tail hardware: K2 Tip & Tail rivet plates were developed for durability, but have now been modified to allow the additional option of a pre-cut climbing skin onto the ski.  Simply screw out the centre rivet, attach K2 skins & you are ready for your backcountry needs. All-terrain Rocker:  Designed for all snow conditions, Features an elevated tip for added performance in variable or soft snow & easier turn initiat

The Way Back is the picture of efficiency for long days in the backcountry. Its narrow & light enough to skin well on hard, technical snow, but sufficiently wide & solid enough to be a capable descender. Specifications Geometry: 124mm / 88mm / 108mm Turning Radius: 21 metres @ 174cm Base Profile: All-Terrain Rocker Construction: Cap Construction with Aspen / Paulownia / Bamboo Core Bindings: Ski Only Features & Benefits All-Terrain Rocker All-Terrain Rocker features an elevated tip for variable & soft snow performance, as well as camber underfoot for power, energy, & edge-hold in firmer conditions. Simply put, All-Terrain Rocker offers versatility & ease in all snow conditions. Cap Construction Durable & lightweight “cap” skis are built by a sophisticated molding process that envelopes the core & internal materials with the top layer of the ski. Used throughout our ski line, cap constructions can be assembled with a variety of different cores. These variations, such as glass and/or metal materials, are the determining factors of the skis’ performance. Wood Core K2 uses a variety of wood cores for energy, rebound, & a liveliness only found in wood core skis. Our wood cores consist of a blend of different species of wood based on the desired flex & target performance of the ski. Powder Tip Designed to be more predictable in soft snow conditions, these tips are designed to strike the perfect balance of maximizing float while reducing tip deflection. These tips are designed with a gentle arc & transition into the sidecut of the ski. Progressive Sidecut Progressive sidecut is a combination of two different radii, or sidecuts, that enhance the versatility of wider-waist skis. Standard sidecut theory is based on using a single radius. This works well on narrower skis, but becomes overpowering on wider skis, especially in variable conditions. The use of progressive sidecut on wider-waist skis guarantees enhanced turn initiation & hard-snow performance. Carbon Web Enveloping the Mod structure with a carbon weave where the strands of carbon are laid at precise angles for an additional level of torsional rigidity on the secondary core. This keeps the ski light but gives you the additional torsional strength where you need it most. Snophobic Topsheet Since snow collecting on the ski can add pounds to a climb, our Sno Phobic tops keep you light with a new snow-repellent topsheet. The running surface along the bottom of a ski is hydrophobic by design, so we’ve developed a thinner version of the same material to use on the Back Side model-specific topsheets. Skin Grommets The new freeride tip & tail grommets are a clean, simple design that no longer requires a plug. The durable rubber coating disguises a slit designed to accommodate both the Z clip for our skin attachments, & the components to build a rescue sled. Torsion Box Torsion Box construction is the foundation for the widest range of skis designed by K2. Depending on the

Dimensions of a ski, & the amount of flex & torsion designed into it, one model of a Torsion Box ski can differ greatly from another. The versatility in the construction enables us to build everything from entry-level through expert skis. While there will be significant differences between skis, they do share the common traits of ease, forgiveness, responsiveness, & energy that can be found in all Torsion Box skis.

This ski has been redesigned, lightened & modernized to appeal to the ski mountaineer or spring ski tourer who places a premium on efficiency. We have stocked K2 since we started the business & with the range & quality of their skis it is easy to see why.  Speak to any staff member & they own or would like to own at least one pair from the K2 range. This year K2 have added Ro X technology across a number of the women’s range to improve their edge hold & torsional stiffness in the tip as well as help vibration dampening. This was utilized in the men’s range last season with great response & is now spread out across more of their range.  This, combined with their new Baseline 2.0 technology has changed the performance of their women specific range & they have done this by using a new comprehensive build process where a skis top shape is redesigned to complement the side profile along the entire ski.  They have called this ‘ Baseline 2.0’ & K2 has managed to engineer skis for varied skier types & even different styles of skiing, while also finely tuning them for a specific snow condition. The Wayback 88 has been redesigned, lightened & modernized to appeal to the ski mountaineer or spring ski tourer who places a premium on efficiency.  Slight tip & tail taper provide greater ease & versatility than its predecessor & sidewalls underfoot also improve the edge hold. These skis use the Baseline 2 Backside construction.  These are built with a powder influenced design with progressively more taper as the widths increase., making the ski steer easier in soft & unpredictable snow. The profile of the tips is long & low with All-Terrain Rocker for smooth planning through softer snow & increased versatility..  The waist widths allow medium to long radius sidecuts for reduced weight & to empower confidence during medium to long turns, while the camber on these skis is medium to low for a consistent feel in a variety of snow conditions.   Finally the tails offer greater versatility by allowing skier to adjust the arc mid-turn & makes the turn release easier.  The tail profiles are flat & allow the skier to plunge the tails into the snow in order to build anchors. A true twin-tip all mountain ski, the  Kastle XX90  James has just the slightest tip & tail rocker to increase its versatility. The DUAL HOLLOWTECH nose & tail reduces the swing weight for easier transitions when skiing switch. One of three James Colby West pro skis, this is the most versatile due to the width & the sight rocker in the tip & tail. All KÄSTLE twin tips have high quality sandwich sidewall construction. Impact resistant ABS Sidewalls & premium edge material provide exceptional durability. The XX90 is a true twin tip- fully symmetrical from tip to tail. The James shape provides a well-balanced, aggressive driving platform for skiing regular as well as switch. DUAL HOLLOWTECH With the help of the HOLLOWTECH technology the ski‘s running characteristics is enhanced. The cutout section in the shovel leads to a reduced weight of the freely vibrating zone by almost 15 %. The resulting lower inertia moments optimize the retraction behavior of the ski. This means that after an impact the shovel returns much faster to the stable condition, enabling the ski to keep its track much more precisely. Dual Hollowtech on the XX Twintip skis, allows for the fastest rotation & most controllable spin. SKI CONSTRUCTION SKI

The DUAL HOLLOWTECH & EARLY RISE ROCKER technology deliver unparalleled stability in powder. With a dual radius Big Mountain sidecut keeping the ski nice & wide, supreme float is assured, & with the traditional sidewall & sandwich construction long sweeping turns on the pistes are still possible. Kastle is a speciality ski manufacturer from Austria founded in 1924.  Although not considered one of the major brands here in the UK if you head across to the alps you will see a large number of these, & they are increasingly becoming popular by those that have found out  Kastle’s well-constructed, stable, agile & incredibly versatile range of skis. One of  Kastle’s main technological advantages is their patented hollowtech design system.  This has been developed over the last 30yrs and means that the tip of each ski has oval-shaped cut-outs, leaving just a layer of opaque fibreglass this reduces the weight of each ski shovel by up to 15 percent.  The decrease in mass helps the ski minimize vibrations & hold an edge more precisely.  This coupled with using only the latest & best materials to construct their cores & their timeless clean graphics means that  Kastle’s dedication to producing some of the world’s best skis will carry on for another season. Entitled by  Kastle as ‘ The Virtuoso’ this really is the all mountain play ski.  You can be sure that where ever you go with this ski you will arrive at the bottom with a huge grin on your face.  The early rise technology makes it a perfect ride in on  Piste powder to side country to any adventure it undertakes. BMX98 easily transitions onto the groomers as well.   Ski
