The Subculture is brand new model for 2014 & features the new Lifted profile from K2. Taking a flat profile & lifting it creates a camber like profile that means the middle of the board is raised when it is not ‘loaded’ with the rider’s weight. Un-like camber, where the arch to the middle of the board gradually increases, Lifted provides a consistent (flat) base throughout. As with camber, this profile increases then tension & therefore ‘pop’ of the board once loaded with the easy ride of a flat profile. Think of it as ‘camber done right’. Specification: Profile: Precision Lifted (flat lifted) Running length: 124.38 Waist
Width: 25.20 Sidecut radius: 8.0 Setback: ¾ inch Flex: Not specified (Specification based on the 158cm board) Note: Topsheet & base graphic colours are size specific & may vary
Features: For a long time now K2 have built their boards around a flat profile (often with varying amounts of rocker at the nose & tail), the new Precision Lifted Baseline is an evolution of the flat profile. Essentially the flat section between the feet extends towards the contact points & is raised from the contact points at the tip & tail. This provides the pop of a camber board with the straight tracking & precision of a flat profile. K2 have flattened & extended the nose & tail to produce their trade mark Tweekends. This provides a larger platform by increasing the base contact right to the tips. This gives you a bigger & more stable platform for presses, landings & increased float in powder. With a sidewall that extends along the effective edge & flows into in the nose & tail Hybritech construction provides the benefits of low swing-weight, optimised turn initiation & durability. A Twin Hyper Progressive sidecut is an infinite blend of different radius designed to be responsive at high speeds but smooth enough for butters. The true twin shape of the board requires a twin sidecut so the board feels exactly the same whether it’s ridden regular or switch. Three species of renewable wood run tip-to-tail to make up the W2 Core. This construction provides optimised strength, weight reduction & dampening without additional materials. ICG10 has integrated carbon in a Triax fibreglass weave. The results are reduced overall weight, with an increase to pop & liveliness. The NEW Carbon Web I additive brings pop & snap closer to the bindings. Extending from the outermost binding inserts to the edges (in L shapes), Carbon Web transfers energy out to the parts of the board that really effect edge grip & turn initiation. 4000 Sintered Base is the fastest natural base material available. It Absorbs wax deeper & retains it for longer & is also exceptionally durable. In reality the Subculture is almost the opposite of what its name may suggest. Rather than going against the grain or being niche it has wide appeal which spans a number disciplines within snowboarding. Euro-carving, buttering, jumps, presses, straightlining – it’s got it covered. The Subculture is essentially a de-tuned Slayblade, so if you’re looking for a slightly less demanding board then the Subculture is the one. Is it for me?
