The British Canoe Unions 1 star award is designed to be the first step in becoming a paddler. Youll be learning the personal paddle stokes needed to control the kayak through the water, the safety aspects of kayaking with others including capsize procedures & the theory behind the sport. Dont worry if this sounds a bit daunting, the course can be taken without any prior experience. Programme During the course you will gain all the relevant skills & theory needed for the assessment such as: safety awareness, equipment selection, launching & recovering, steering & controlling, kayaking theory, capsize drills & using spray decks. Duration This experience will last for Approx. 6 hours. Group There will be other people there on the day. Spectators Youre welcome to bring along spectators to watch. Fitness Adventure activities can be tiring but do not require a high level of fitness. A declaration form must be completed on the day. The maximum weight is 102kg (16 stone). Experience There are no qualifications required for this experience. Minimum Age The minimum age is 14 years (Please note the minimum age for East Grinstead & Sussex is 18).
