Our Stumpjumper ST models are snappy & nimble yet Incredibly versatile—the perfect rigs for riders seeking both efficiency & capability. The Stumpjumper ST Alloy 27.5 makes that winning combo affordable with components that are big on performance & small on dollar signs. THE ULTIMATE TRAIL BIKE The innovative sidearm frame design makes a lighter better-handling bike. By directly connecting all three mounting points of the rear-end & shock to the frame weve increased both stiffness & performance over bumps. End result? Total control. PERFECTLY-BALANCED SUSPENSION Our in-house suspension-tuning team develops custom shock tunes perfectly paired to each bikes kinematics. We call this Rx Tune & while its not the easy way to build a suspension bike its worth it. You feel Rx Tune as perfectly-balanced suspension. SMART PARTS PICK • 27.5 wheels accentuate the Stumpjumper STs playful on-trail feel. • 130-millimeters of suspension courtesy of a Rock Shox Recon RL fork. • SX Eagle 12-speed drivetrain gives you single-ring simplicity & gearing to spare. The M5 alloy frame asymmetrical “sidearm” design & our 27.5 Geometry make this Stumpjumper both nimble & capable. 130-millimeters of plush & controlled suspension (including a lock-out) come courtesy of a Rock Shox Recon RL fork. SX Eagle 12-speed drivetrain gives you single-ring simplicity & all the gearing you need to summit the biggest climbs. 27.5 wheels accentuate the Stumpjumper ST’s playful on-trail feel. The Tranz X seatpost lets you drop your saddle on descents increasing your maneuverability & control when the trail gets dicey. Yes the new Womens Stumpjumper ST 27.5 comes as an alloy version & it may be the most radically designed alloy bike ever made. & with new tube shapes an asymmetrical design & the snappy handling that the 27.5 platform is known for this bike is sure to exceed your expectations of how a trail bike should ride. Our design goal for the new Stumpjumper was simple—build the ultimate trail bike one that feels telepathic. & it turns out that this feeling all comes down to stiffness. Think of it this way: when the frames telling your hands one thing & your feet another your brain gets confused with the imbalance & the bike feels unstable. In order to fix this we had to get to work on dialing-in the materials shapes & the layout. We continued down the suspension path with a Womens Rx Tune that gives both the fork & rear shock a custom tune specifically for female riders. Suspension performance is highly dependent on frame wheel & rider size so we use our Womens Rx Tune to get each bike to land in the middle of the adjustment spectrum & this gives you the biggest possible range to fine-tune your ride. Another focal point of the tune was matching the suspension characteristics between wheel sizes—we developed a specific Rx Tune for each platform & rider size. So no matter what youll get perfectly linear suspension. Steps were also taken to make this bike easy to live with. Threaded bottom brackets make a triumphant return & we made room for up to a 3.0 tire. Youre also free to run whatever aftermarket rear shock you want since were using standard metric shocks. & customization is furthered with a Flip Chip that lets you to dial-in your Stumpy to your riding style. Switch it from High to Low & it drops your bottom bracket 6mm & slackens the head tube by half-a-degree. Little details also jump out to surprise you like a newly designed ribbed chainstay protector that makes chain slap a thing of the past & nearly silences the drivetrain. The build here is no-nonsense with a focus on dependable high-performing parts like Shimano SLX front & rear derailleurs Tektro Gemini disc brakes a Rock Shox Recon RL fork with 130mm of travel a custom X-Fusion 02 Pro RL rear shock with 130mm of travel & wide alloy wheels. The all-new alloy Womens Stumpjumper ST frame features an M5 alloy front- & rear-end an asymmetrical design & our 27.5 Trail Geometry so its both capable & comfortable. The X-Fusion Metric rear shock features rebound adjustment lockout & our coveted Rx Trail Tune to ensure youre getting the most out of your Stumpjumper ST. A Rock Shox Recon RL provides 130mm of travel up front & it lets you adjust both rebound & lockout. With the same 11m carbon construction as the S-Works the Stumpjumper ST Comp Carbon 29 with 12-speed SRAM NX Eagle brings you transcendent handling custom-tuned suspension & an elimination of proprietary headaches—all while keeping the speed you look for with 29-inch wheels. & dont forget that with its ST distinction this Stumpjumper gets slightly steeper angles & less suspension (130mm front/120mm rear) so you get more nimble & responsive climbing ability & sublime descending prowess. We started by creating our own mountain-specific stiffness test & then we looked at the layout with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to see where we could get the biggest stiffness improvements. This led to a big discovery: The Large & X-Large frames needed more front-end stiffness while the Smalls & Mediums were just fine. We were able to create a frame design that was 20% more efficient. & in the end this proved to be one of the lightest trail frames on the market today. When designing the frame with the stiffness targets being a main goal we developed a radical new sidearm design. The front-end & rear-end are connected at three points & the sidearm helps keep all these points super stiff & connected all while taking about 100 grams out of the rear-end. More explicitly this minimizes frame flex when the rear suspension is active. We continued down the suspension path with a custom Rx Trail Tune on both the fork & rear shock. Suspension performance is highly dependent on frame wheel & rider size so we use our Rx Tune to get each bike to land in the middle of the adjustment spectrum & this gives you the biggest possible range to fine-tune your ride. So no matter what wheel size you prefer youll get perfectly linear suspension. Steps were also taken to make this bike easy to live with. We revamped the SWAT™ box too making it sleeker lighter & with more volume. & customization is furthered with a Flip Chip that lets you to dial-in your Stumpy to your riding style. Little details also jump out to surprise you like a newly designed ribbed chainstay protector that makes chain slap a thing of the past & nearly silences the drivetrain. Lastly we seriously couldnt make cable routing any easier on carbon models. Full tubes can be found throughout the carbon frame so all you have to do is push the cable & itll come out the other end. Primaloft™ insulated backhand is super light & warm Fully waterproof outer Hipora™ shell provides protection in the harshest weather High visibility black reflective graphics keeps you safe at night while stylish in the day Brushed microfibre thumb brushes away sweat plus its windproof for added protection High-grip palm works great in wet weather Extended gauntlet style cuff keeps out wet & cold Road.cc test report 9/10 These gloves will keep your hands warm in the really really cold weather & theyÂ’re fully waterproof too. You actually get two sets of gloves in one here: a micro-fleece inner & a big waterproof outer. You can wear the inners on their own during autumn & spring. TheyÂ’re soft & fleecy & provide a reasonable amount of warmth although theyÂ’re not 100% windproof so you notice your hands getting cooler on fast descents. Silicone rubber palm & fingertip print provides grip on the bars & controls but thereÂ’s no padding so if you want some youÂ’ll need to wear mitts underneath. ItÂ’s the outers that really impress though Â- theyÂ’re excellent. For a start theyÂ’re among the few cycling gloves weÂ’ve ever used that are properly waterproof rather than just a bit waterproof. WeÂ’ve been caught out in full-on storms in these & nothing has got inside. Plus the Hipora inserts are really breathable. As a demonstration of how well they work you can fill the gloves with hot water & none will leak out but steam will permeate through the pores in the fabric. Take our word for it Â- it works. Out on the road this translates into hands that feel less clammy than usual when you work up a sweat. Sure if you get really hot hands things will get damp in there but the performance is very good. The polyurethane palm is really grippy thereÂ’s a big old wipe panel on the back of the thumb & drawcords on the extended cuffs allow you to seal out the wet & cold. A fair amount of reflective trim helps get you seen at night while a fleecy lining means that you can wear the outers without the inners on days that are wet but mild. Wear the outers & the inners together & you get loads of insulation & no wind gets through the shell layer to rob you of the heat you build up in there. TheyÂ’re not ridiculously bulky either. TheyÂ’re big but theyÂ’re not like oven gloves. You can still feel the levers easily enough. WeÂ’ve worn these on rides down to freezing point & beyond & stayed comfortable enough Â- they really do live up to their name & the price is reasonable for the level of performance too. Verdict Warm waterproof & versatile Â- among our favourite gloves for full-on winter riding ...
