This is the updated & enhanced version of the award winning POC Octal helmet. It takes all the exceptional features of the Octal; great fitting exceptional ventilation & ultra-lightweight construction with the additional safety features of MIPS.MIPS stands for Multi-directional Impact Protection System what is does is simple yet very effective. A MIPS helmet has an extra layer built in that allows for a few millimetres of rotation in the event of a crash. This seemingly small movement can reduce the rotational forces from the impact & reduce the likelihood of concussive injury. The clever use of EPS foam density allows for high levels of crash protection yet maintains a featherweight build so youÂ’ll hardly notice itÂ’s there in use. The EPS liner is thicker in areas where protection is needed the most. The EPS liner is fully wrapped with the unibody shell which enhances the safety properties of the helmet & helps keep the weight low. Cooling is exceptionally good too owing to POCÂ’s approach to ventilation Â- rather than having lots of vents POCÂ’s approach is to have few but larger vents to allow more air to flow through the helmet uninhibited. This has the added bonus of improving the aerodynamics along with the effective cooling. The lightweight size adjustment system allows for a great range of adjustment to suit most head shapes with comfort. The helmets straps are molded into the helmet liner for a cleaner look & more secure attachment. The fit is complimented with the use of Coolbest pads which are used to help reduce the temperature in the interface between the helmet & the riderÂ’s head. As part of POCÂ’s AVIP concept the Octal MIPS helmets is available in high vis colourways with a reflective sticker kit as well as an ICE tag. For those that donÂ’t know ICE stands for In Case of Emergency the ICE tags are a way of recording your emergency contact details as well as important medical information such as blood type & allergies in a scannable code that is used across the globe. Most importantly of all the Octal helmet has an ‘eye garageÂ’ this is a fancy way of saying that thereÂ’s a place on the helmet design to stick your sunglasses into to keep them safe when not on your faceÂ… plus it gives you that essential pro look.
