It's no secret that red roses mean true love. But in floriology
- that's the language of flowers
- there are many meanings that are secret but can now be revealed word by word, flower by flower. Chrysanthemums, for instance, indicate Truth & Friendship. The reason? Well in Japanese legend the orderly, progressive way the petals unfurl symbolises the way truth
- initially hidden
- is slowly revealed. & in the Shogun chivalric code, truth & loyalty were absolute essentials for friendship. The Victorians
- who loved secret messages
- liked this symbolism, & incorporated it into their own version of floriology. Today, chrysanthemums make a lovely & thoughtful gift for true friends & just in case the recipient isn't fluent in the secret language of flowers, an explanatory card will be enclosed with the arrangement. After all, some secrets are worth sharing.
