Why should I have a Tulip Hood on my lens, & what will it do ? This is a popular question put to the 7dayshop support staff, & asked on many photographic forums... The Tulip hood is a VERY useful addition that will help reduce " Flare" & " Discoloured Spots" that are caused by sun/light entering the lens at a less than optimal angle (such as side-on & slightly to the front of the lens) on wide-angle (anything less than 35mm) fixed & zoom lenses..." Flare" is caused by light striking the outer lens elements (the glass pieces that make up the entire lens) & causing a washed-out or over-exposed area on the image (sound familiar?)..." Discolouration Spots" usually appear as violet/ Blue/ Yellow Hexagonal or Octagonal dots of varying size, that can ruin an otherwise normally exposed image... To counter these, the Hood can be mounted/rotated to provide perfect positioning of the different height " Petals", depending on where the sun/light is (eg to the left/right/below/above the front of the lens)... The Hood can also reduce the appearance of dust on frontal lens elements, in certain circumstances (but a clean dust-free lens is always best
- please see our lens cleaning kits, cloths & sprays)... These hoods are tough & impact-resistant & offer incredible value, & should be in every photographers kit-bag... Check the front of your lens for the correct size diameter when ordering (in mm), This hood is for an 82mm threaded lens...7dayshop Info: Lens hoods & filters will typically fit onto the front of your lens by screwing clockwise into place. Most lenses will show what diameter filter or hood is required on the front with a small circle symbol (like F58mm) Filter sizes are given as a mm size & most popular sizes go from 49mm up to 82mm although they can vary outside of this range for more specialist cameras & lenses..
