With the country torn apart by war, Taiwanese youth Chen Qiushui (Chen Kun) is forced to flee to the Mainland & loses contact with his love Wang Biyun (Vivian Hsu). He becomes a military doctor & travels throughout China. Though his heart lies with Biyun, he is eventually won over by the sincerity of free-spirited nurse Wang Jindi (Li Bingbing). On the other side of the Strait, Biyun resolutely waits for her love to return.
