One of the most important turning points in Japanese political history is now a film from beloved writer-director Mitani Koki! Based on his own novel, The Kiyosu Conference is a humorous account of the meeting convened to decide the fate of the nation after the death of Oda Nobunaga. Mitani depicts the meeting as a battle of wits between two factions inside of the shogunate, & the winner will take rule of an entire nation. Like all Mitani films, The Kiyosu Conference features an all-star cast filled with familiar faces: Yakusho Koji ( Suite Dreams), Oizumi Yo ( The Detective in the Bar), Sato Koichi ( The Magic Hour), Tsumabuki Satoshi ( Tokyo Family), Suzuka Kyoka ( Flowers), Nakatani Miki ( Memories of Matsuko) & Matsuyama Kenichi ( Death Note).
1582, Japan. When Oda Nobunaga & his eldest son are forced to take their own lives, his chief retainers including Shibata Katsuie (Yakusho Koji) & Hashiba Hideyoshi (Oizumi Yo) convene at Kiyosu Castle to decide on the fate of the shogunate. The chief retainers immediately split into two factions, with the conservative Shibata pushing for Nobunagas second son & with the wily, charismatic Hideyoshi pushing for another candidate. What follows is a fierce battle of wits that will go into the history books as Japans first political summit.
