A spectacular autumn-flowering bulb Nerine Alba Ella K produces clusters of lily-like white flowers with recurved petals that are held on upright stems. The flowers appear before the foliage which is dark green & strap-like & they look amazing in beds & borders when mixed with red & violet flowers. They are excellent for adding to well drained borders containers & rockeries & make dramatic cut flowers at a time when other blooms are scarce.
Type: Perennial
Flowering period: Sep-Oct
Height: 50cm
Plant the bulbs in sandy free draining soil preferably in a south facing sunny position. They prefer shallow planting with their tips or bulb neck protruding just above the soil surface. Water freely while in active growth but during dormant periods keep the compost just moist. After flowering feed bulbs with a low nitrogen fertiliser.
In winter they add dry mulch to protect them from frost. Move container plants to a warm dry position. Nerines may be slow to flower in the first year or two until they are fully established. Avoid moving them as this may further delay their development.
