When people talk about the ‘ Golden Age of Steam’, they are usually referring to the advances that made rail travel popular, but the use of steam as a mode of propelling boats preceded its use on the railways by some decades. The technology was developed almost simultaneously in France, Scotland & the United States in the late 18th Century, with a raft of inventors trialling different ways to make steam boats efficient as passenger vehicles, freight ships & even warships.  Perhaps this is why steam boats evoke such an air of nostalgia – just seeing one is enough to make any boating enthusiast want to take to the water. This trip is a chance to enjoy stunning scenery, an exquisite cream tea & have the chance to explore the beautifully-appointed vessel as it carries its passengers through the grounds of Windsor Castle.
