The Bluebell Railway is a heritage line running for 11 miles along the border between East & West Sussex in Engl&. You will have the pleasure of enjoying some of the UK’s finest scenery from the comfort of a beautifully maintained steam train carriage. The railway is managed & run largely by passionate volunteers who have preserved a large number of steam locomotives since the cessation of the steam service on British mainline railways since 1968, & today it boasts the second largest collection of steam locomotives in the UK
- second only to the National Railway Museum. The Society also has a vast & impressive collection of almost 150 carriages & wagons, most of them pre-dating 1939. & with various stations along this pleasant route which have been restored to show different periods of the railway's life, this is an experience that railway lovers will cherish. In addition to this fantastic day out, you will visit Wakehurst Place, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty & is often referred to as " Kew in the country". Wakehurst Place is a National Trust Property & is managed by the Royal Botanical Gardens. Highlights of the extensive & lavish gardens include colourful herbaceous borders, a series of water gardens, Asian Heath garden & a fine collection of trees & many other rare plants. Please note you can enjoy this experience in any order, but you will need to drive between the two sites, either starting at Wakehurst & moving to the Bluebell Railway or setting off with steam trains before wandering through the Place’s botanic gardens.
