A most beautiful tree, Cercis siliquastrum, commonly known as the Judas Tree, is a small deciduous tree with ancient origins from Southern Europe & Western Asia. It is noted for its prolific display of heart-shaped clusters of deep-pink flowers in the spring through to summer, which are produced on year-old or older growth, including the trunk. The leaves appear shortly after the first flowers emerge. It is easy to care for, as is drought-resistant & thrives on most soils. It slowly forms a well-rounded tree. It also helps attract bees, & has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
