Taiwan New Wave filmmaker Wang Tong, the director of the classics Strawman & Red Persimmon, returns with his first feature film in a decade, Where the Wind Settles. Spanning from the forties to the present day, the ambitious film is a sweeping tale of ordinary people struggling to live & love through the turbulent tides of Taiwan modern history. Where the Wind Settles brings together an ensemble cast of some of Taiwans most well-known young actors including Tony Yang ( The Crossing), George Hu ( Love, Now), Amber Kuo ( Tiny Times), Hayden Kuo ( Tiny Times) & Alice Ke ( Monga), as well as Mason Lee, the son of director Ang Lee.
In the final days of the Chinese Civil War, retreating Nationalist soldiers Sheng (Tony Yang), Fan (George Hu) & Shun (Li Xiaochuan) rescue & adopt a young boy while making their escape from the Mainl&. They board a Taiwan-bound ship whose passengers also include sisters Qiu Mei & Qiu Xiang (Hayden Kuo), whom Sheng grows to love. In Taipei, the three men & their son Xiao Feng build a new life together while longing for lost loves & homes. Years later, a grown-up Xiao Feng (Mason Lee) falls for Qiu Mei (Amber Kuo), & she becomes a part of this non-blood-related family that was born from war, formed by fate & sealed through years of love, strife & sacrifice.
