Hwang Jung Min ( The Wailing), Park Won Sang (W) & Lee Eol ( Addicted) form a rock band in Waikiki Brothers! An early effort from director Lim Soon Rye ( Whistle Blower), the 2001 film follows a band that faces disbandment after their youthful days have passed, but one member continues to fight for his dream on his own. Also co-starring Ji Hye ( The Lord of The Drama), Ryoo Seung Bum ( The Unjust) & Park Hae Il ( Memories of Murder), Waikiki Brothers won Best Supporting Actress & the Technical Award at 22nd Blue Dragon Film Awards, the Netpac Award at the 6th Busan International Film Festival, & Best Film at the 38th Baeksang Arts Awards.
Rock band Waikiki Brothers consists of four members: lead vocalist & guitarist Sung Woo (Lee Eol), keyboardist Jung Seok (Park Won Sang), drummer Kang Soo (Hwang Jung Min) & a saxophonist. They start performing as a band at the Waikiki Hotel nightclub in Suanbo, a hot place for teenagers in the 80s. As time passes, karaoke becomes popular & people no longer show up for the bands gigs. The saxophonist quits, & the other members also cannot make a living as a b&. After many years, Sung Woo reunites with the Waikiki Brothers members & realizes that all of them are sadly not living the life they really want.
