During the warlord era in the tumultuous early years of the Republic of China, there was once an army from Huaiyou that became addicted to consuming human flesh, particularly that of children. When the Huaiyou army got trapped in the neighboring town of Lintang, all of the towns children & infants were devoured overnight. Years after warfare subsided, the practice of summoning infant spirits became popular in Lintang, but those who raised baby ghosts often met tragic ends.
