Bringing in over seven million admissions at the box office, nostalgic blockbuster Sunny is Koreas feel-good hit of the year. Jumping between the roaring eighties & the present-day, the crowd-pleasing film follows the friendship of seven girls, then & now. Shim Eun Kyung ( Romantic Heaven), Kang So Ra (4th Period Mystery), & Min Hyo Rin ( Romance Town) lead the teenage rebellion as feisty, troublemaking schoolgirls whose high school brawling days cross over with the democracy protests of the eighties. Coming of age amid pop tunes, sunny times, & fearless friendship, what lives await yesterdays reckless dreamers when they meet again as adults? Winning Best Director at the Daejong Film Awards with just his second film, writer-director Kang Hyung Chul follows Speedy Scandal with another critically acclaimed smash hit that connects with audiences of all ages.
The picture of beauty & composure, forty-something mother & wife Na Mi (Yoo Ho Jung) seems to have achieved the ideal life. One day, she bumps into her old high school friend Chun Hwa (Jin Hee Kyung), who is hospitalized with terminal cancer but still as sassy as ever. They reminisce about their high school days together 25 years ago. Back then, Na Mi (Shim Eun Kyung) was the quirky, small-town girl who just moved to Seoul, & Chun Hwa (Kang So Ra) was the tough fighter who welcomed her into the "e; Sunny"e; crew. Along with chubby Jang Mi (Kim Min Young), foul-mouthed Jin Hee (Park Jin Joo), bookish Geum Ok (Nam Bo Ra), Miss Korea wannabe Bok Hee (Kim Bo Mi), & arrogant beauty Su Ji (Min Hyo Rin), the girls picked fights with rival cliques & danced their teenage hearts away. They vowed to be friends forever, but adolescent breakdowns & the advent of adulthood would send them all down different roads. As Chun Hwas health worsens, Na Mi sets out to round up the Sunny crew for one more dance.
