Director Doze Niu reunites with his Monga & Love star Ethan Ruan in Paradise In Service, a coming-of-age tale set in a Taiwan military-sanctioned brothel thats mere kilometers away from Mainland China. After a successful jaunt on the festival circuit, which included stops at the Busan & Berlin International Film Festivals, Paradise In Service shone at the 51st Golden Horse Awards, with Chen Jianbin ( Three Kingdoms) & Wan Qian ( The Children Came Home) respectively claiming the Best Supporting Actor & Best Supporting Actress Awards.
The year is 1969, & innocent 20-year-old Pao (Ethan Ruan) has just been selected to join the notoriously tough Sea Dragons unit on Kinmen Island as part of his mandatory military service. Paos less-than-impressive physical skills find him lagging behind in training, & his tough commander Chang (Chen Jianbin) soon decides to assign the fledgling recruit elsewhere. Pao ends up at Unit 831, euphemistically dubbed "e;the teahouse"e; & "e;military paradise, "e; a military-sanctioned brothel he is to manage. There, he meets the materialistic Jiao (Ivy Chen, Girls) & the mysterious Ni Ni (Wan Qian), & discovers that Unit 831 is a place where desires for warmth, lust & home collide.
