The abrasive Oh Dae Soo (Choi Min Sik) is suddenly kidnapped one day & confined in a cell with only a television set. He makes various efforts to escape & even attempts to commit suicide, but all ends in failure. From the television, Dae Soo learns that his wife had been murdered & that he was wanted by the police for the crime. Shocked, grieved, & angry, Dae Soo starts digging a hole in the wall with a spoon.
After 15 years of inexplicable imprisonment, a slightly manic Dae Soo is just as inexplicably released.
