Higashino Keigos best-selling novel The Miracles of the Namiya General Store hits Chinese cinemas with the live-action adaptation Namiya starring TFBOYS member Karry Wang ( The Great Wall), popular TV actress Dilraba Dilmurat ( Eternal Love), award-winning young actor Dong Zijian ( Mountains May Depart) & Jackie Chan in a special appearance. The martial arts superstar takes on a rare non-action role as the elderly proprietor of a general store that magically connects people across time & space. Arriving the same year as the Japanese live-action remake, the Chinese take on the moving fantasy novel largely retains the original premise & storyline while also adapting local elements into the narrative.
After committing a crime, Xiao Bo (Karry Wang), Tong Tong (Dilraba Dilmurat) & Ah Jie (Dong Zijian) run off & take refuge in an abandoned general store. The three friends, who grew up at the same orphanage, intend to hide in the store for the night. Years ago, the store used to be run by a kind old man (Jackie Chan) who answered letters written by those seeking advice. When the three troubled youths come upon a letter from the past, they write a reply & leave it in the milk box outside the store, just like the owner did. Amazingly, more letters from the past come in through the mail slot, & they continue to answer. They gradually realize that their letters are affecting & connecting lives, including their own.
Namiya is directed by Han Jie, who previously helmed the indie dramas Mr. Tree & Walking on the Wild Side & assisted on Jia Zhangkes Still Life & The World. Besides a varied supporting cast that
